A Look can get you Hooked!

Description: The concentration here lies more upon the expression of the face. The way those eyes smile along with the lips was a great challenge to achieve. The glowing face which lies on the support of knees and hands is a very lively posture depicting happiness, relaxation and a pose quite often found in advertisements and posters of models. 

Technique: Pencil Colour Sketching

Firstly a very light layer of sketching is done using simple graphite pencils - HB or B. Then the most lightest shades are done first, to keep the base bright and bring out the colour as of the skin. The darker colours are then used making strokes and to highlight the shadows created on the hands, face, neck and the pleats on the cloth. The eyes are then detailed out with a sharper tip to maintain that sparkle and curves of the eye brows that make the look more prominent and visible. Here spreading the shade isn't required as filling with strokes takes care of the mixing shades and creating the suitable colours for the cheeks, and the curves on the neck. Once the main figure comes into form, the hair and the background are filled in to highlight the foreground and finish the whole.

Women's Day Special - 8th March

Dedicated to all the women who take pride in being one and also those men who have atleast one woman in their lives in the form of a grandmother, mother, sister, wife, girlfriend or a friend! HAPPY WOMEN'S DAY!

Description and Concept: As you can guess, the concept behind this doodle revolves around the fact that a WOMAN IS SPECIAL, really very special. She is vibrant, she is colourful, she is tender. Elements of nature like trees, flowers, leaves, creepers, butterflies are often used in context of a woman or a girl. Well, here the gender 'FEMALE' really matters! The aim behind this doodle was to bring out these feelings in a very filled yet vibrant form depicting the role of a woman and conveying the message as to how special she is indeed. 

Technique: Black and Red marker pens with fine details of a black stick pen of 0.5 mm. The colour pencils take care of the shading part. Ofcourse the whole layout is to be sketched first in pencil with a very soft hand. The prominent feel of the whole doodle comes from the boldness of the black marker finally.

First Trial of Reverse Sketching

As the title suggests, it is indeed ' REVERSE SKETCHING', or to elaborate more - sketching from outside to inside. 

Description: Normally, one tends to sketch from the centre of the paper and take the shades to outside. As I sat observing a photograph of a furry white cat, I said to myself " How would the fur get the feel if I actually sketched this cute animal that has caught my attention?"

Technique: The sketch began with tracing the form from the four corners of the page. A 6 mm graphite pencil making its way through shading thick to thin and loosening up to trace the form in the centre. When the approx form was reached, the details had to be taken care of at once. A thinner graphite would take care of it, like the 4B pencil - darker, smoother, thinner and still maintaining the feel of the fur. The eyes and whiskers were approximately sketched at the concerned position, and further the details needed a finer tip of the pencil. 2B and B pencils took care of the refined sketching of the eyes and whiskers, mouth and the spreading was done with cotton buds. Slowly highlighting the shades that fur create on the snow-white body of this cat and emerging cuteness on the face.

The final touching of highlighting the fur towards outside is taken care of by a sharp edged eraser. This brings out the way fur spreads towards the dark background from a lighter foreground.

What do you think when you sit to sketch? Well, to me the first glimpse is me holding the pencil like this! Ofcourse the fingers struggle to a lot many different positions and grips, but that is how you begin...atleast I do!
The sketch came with a thought of presenting something as that first glimpse of the whole profile...thus it came to being with rough strokes, and hazy shading on the way. Those lines that the palm carries at every fold made with the pencil moving in different directions. is not much different than the wrinkles on the face of an old man, finding their way while he talks or smiles ( Just a comparison though to make you compare in an interesting way!)
